Hey guys and welcome back to another week of reviewing beer. For this very special week, we decided to be a little freaky and go with a threesome: a three-way collab with Crooked Stave, Bale Breaker and Casey Brewing and Blending. They decided to come together to create a child of sorts, a Hazy IPA at a whopping 7.2%. We thought it was about time we returned to our roots, yet we soon regretted it.

To start, this was mid. We started off picking up more positive notes as we took our first sips: “solid,” “good” and “reliable” were what we kept thinking, but as we drank on, it got less and less appealing. There was a whole lot of nothing going on, and just tasted like pure haze. We’ve had much better hazy’s (shoutout Outer Range), so it’s a little hard to like this one. We have had Crooked Stave’s beer before, and their East Coast IPA, which is the same as a hazy, so it was super disappointing that this wasn’t as good. It’s kind of like when you add too many people to a party, it goes downhill. Hopefully, Crooked Stave will lean more towards the vanilla side of things and keep to themselves.

Additionally, we had the honor of drinking two raspberry kölsches each from Denver Beer Co. called Princess Yum Yum before indulging in the Hazy and we think it was a hard act to follow. Not to focus on a beer we didn’t even review, but Princess Yum Yum was just the perfect amount of sweet, while not being too sweet, light, refreshing beer that is hard to follow up with such a creamy and bitter hazy.

To continue to roast this beer, the chug was absolutely horrendous. Megan had so much foam because we decided it would be easier to drink out of a glass; she mostly inhaled air instead of beer while also gagging like she was taking a shot. Izzy also did not do well, wincing as we finished. The two of us were just gravely disappointed in ourselves. This was especially true after last week’s chug we absolutely demolished. While the chug and the beer itself were disappointing, we still had some lovely pairings.

The one thing that this beer did well was get us drunk, which was needed as we watched Milf Manor, the iconic reality TV show where mothers and sons all live together in some tropical place and date each other’s sons/mothers. The one saving grace to this show is their unlimited bar, which, of course, both the MILFs and the 20-year-olds sons take part in. As we drank this beer, all that was getting us through it was the hope of being as drunk as these participants.

As the next morning rolled around Izzy hated this beer even more, waking up with the most horrendous hangover she had maybe ever had. And this was only from a couple of beers? WTF? Although we loved the idea of a collaboration between great breweries we regrettably cannot recommend this one based on this experience. We hope next week is a bit better. See you next time XOXO beer for babes
