Colorado has a serious supply and demand problem with a fundamental resource: water. The Colorado River Basin has been hit by drought for so long that current conditions are becoming recognized as the “new normal.” The state and several of its neighbors are working towards drought contingency plans, but if these aren’t finalized by March, the federal government may intervene and implement its own plans for the region.

In this audio-documentary short, producer Hannah Stoll examines Colorado’s water issues from many angles. She speaks with several regional experts, including a Colorado reporter, an author/professor of environmental science, and officials at Colorado Springs Utilities. She also visits a group of CC students who use grey-water collection to practice small-scale conservation in their own homes. Through these conversations, Stoll paints a picture of a water crisis taking shape and explores some of the ways Coloradans are trying to fight it.
