Colorado Springs suffered a record 13 pedestrian deaths on city streets last year. In an effort to lower the risk of accidents on its campus, Colorado College recently followed through with a “Transportation Master Plan” that has been in the works since 2003. Now, Cascade Ave. has two fewer crosswalks and only one automobile lane where it cuts across the CC campus.

The change was met by overwhelming unpopularity among the student body and has resulted in disciplinary action for jaywalkers – including one student’s semester-long suspension. Sam Sanson details how the changes are affecting – and not affecting – the college in this report from Cascade Ave.
