The lights were dim. The couches were filled. CC students were excited to share their musical talents at the first acoustic open mic organized by Colorado College Music Initiative Collective (MICC).
“Playing music that not only excites them but excites the community,” said David Sigman ‘27.
MICC started three years ago. This week’s event had 80 to 100 attendees, according to Luca Zoeller ‘27. The club has seen an increase in event attendance. When the club had just begun, Zoeller said, shows had between 40 and 50 people in attendance.
Zoeller and Sigman said they were excited about the musical talent within the CC student body, for example Reed Schulman ‘27.
Students like Schulman, alongside acoustic night headliners such as Drift Road (of which Schulman is a part), Jane Volta ‘29 and Christian Sanford ‘28, demonstrate how much of a privilege it is to have such diverse musical talent on campus.
Brendan Goldaber ‘27 oversaw a large portion of the planning. He also performed. Goldaber played “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan and “Jersey Giant” by Tyler Childers with his friend Alex Polovin ‘27 at the show.
The headliners started the night off strong, followed by some impressive performances at the open mic.
Some students played original songs, like “When I Wake Up,” played by Zoeller and “Hard Liquor and the Campaign” by Volta.
Each artist brings a different lens to the music scene at CC, contributing to what has become their own unique CC niche.
