Welcome back! The dwindling number of Beer for Babes left is quite frightening to us, hence the hasty welcome. Nonetheless, we are extremely excited to present last week’s endeavor, Mash Mechanix Brewing Co. We frolicked (biked) our way downtown in matching outfits (white T-shirt and jeans) to explore this new (to Haley) brewery, just to find out we arrived 20 minutes before closing. Lucky for you readers, we are extremely talented at drinking a lot very quickly. Our strategy here was to order four beers and absolutely attack them. Our selection (although limited because they were out of the Larry’s Lager, which ultimately crushed our dreams of getting Michelada) was the Phantom Blood Orange (6.7%), Sweet Ride Cream Ale (5.5%), Nitro Black Ghost (6.8%) and the Lucky 7 Hazy (7%).

We began with the Blood Orange Wheat, which was a nice, refreshing start, especially for a wheat. It wasn’t too sweet, but nothing notable. We’ve had better blood orange beers. Moving on from the unimpressive orange wheat, let’s focus on the Sweet Ride Cream Ale. First sips were giving us a cream soda taste, almost like our beloved Tangerine Cream from Station 26 Brewing. It was a little off putting that the Blood Orange Wheat was further from Tangerine Cream than the Cream Ale. Our thoughts were “I like this” (literally, that’s basically all we wrote). We tried to craft up a combo of the Orange Wheat and this Cream Ale, but we found that Haley had drunk the Orange Wheat too speedily to create a cauldron of beer.

Next came the Nitro Stout, and it gave us major Guinness energy. It was a mix between coffee, a vanilla Guinness and perhaps a McFlurry. Haley enjoyed how the foam remained at the top, so she could draw faces in it. This beer went down quickly and paired well with Megan’s gym bro tupperware of rice and Costco rotisserie chicken, which was brought all the way to Tony’s. We highly recommend munching on their soft pretzels, as they paired well with our third and last beer: the Hazy.

This Hazy was fine. It was light, floral and not overwhelmingly bitter. After three beers, this went down easy and straight to our heads, preparing us well for Tony’s. As we biked away from Mash Mechanix, Fiona Vail ‘26 and Lauren Voinovitch ‘27 almost ran us over, and dodging was difficult because Haley’s bike is so small her knees were past 90 degrees the entire way to Tony’s.

But this isn’t a Tony’s review (imagine) so back to the point. Mash Mechanix’s beer is solid, and the vibes are great. Great location, great energy on a Tuesday at 8 p.m. with yummy, pillowy pretzels. We would recommend this brewery to anyone who cannot travel too far off campus. You can Pike Bike here! Also, this place has great energy during the summer, with an outdoor patio and great food trucks. Stay tuned for another brewery review next week, and shoot us an email if there is anything specific you would like us to try.
