Hello readers and welcome back. Haley has decided not to prioritize fun and friendship and drink with Megan at 4 p.m. on a Monday, so she had to skip out this week. Due to Haley’s lack of attendance, Claire and I felt inclined to still put out an article this week, showcasing a brewery here in the Springs: Red Leg Brewing Company.

Claire and Megan had already visited this brewery this past summer after someone told us it was the “best brewery in the Springs”. We disagree, unfortunately, but it still has a great vibe. Located at the end of Garden of the Gods road, looking over the mountains, this is the perfect place to hit the 5-7 p.m. shift in the summer. With cornhole and great food stands, you literally cannot ask for more. However, their beer has fallen short in the past, so Claire and I came in skeptical.

Megan opted for a flight, while Claire hit the kombucha. In her flight, Megan had the Mexican lager, which is apparently a fan favorite, the Gose, the Attack on Tavern IPA and their West Coast IPA. Ranking them, the Gose took the number one spot. Slightly salty, slightly tart, this was a perfect beer. The Mexican lager was unfortunately a bit too sweet for my liking; however, they do offer a Tajin rim on a normal pint, so it gets points there. The IPAs were just mid. The Attack on the Tavern was described as having pinot grigio notes, which frightened me at first, but I didn’t really taste them. It was overall a solid IPA, but I didn’t have much to say. The west coast was also basic and weirdly left a dark rim on my glass, which was off-putting. Nonetheless, these beers surprised Claire and me, as our last experience was so subpar.

In addition to their nonalcoholic beverages, a note for those who do not like beer: they have amazing cocktails. Just peeking at their menu, they had a chamoy mango Tajin margarita and a strawberry vodka smash. This is just another reason that this place is an amazing spot to drink — everyone can have fun!

Our one piece of advice is to hit the ‘adults only’ deck that overlooks the entire yard and brewery. It offers some pretty amazing people-watching. All the dogs made the area feel homey alongside some golf pros, alternative millennials, a few middle-aged chillers and someone wearing a sweatshirt that read “kill all pedophiles.” If you’re not on the deck judging the people below you, you aren’t doing red leg right.

If you asked me five months ago if I would recommend this place, I would have said no. However, I am changing my mind. This place rocks, even if the beer doesn’t knock my socks off. I will be here on graduation weekend with my parents if anyone would like to join.

Stay tuned for another article next week, hopefully with our dearest Haley, whom I miss drinking with. Send us suggestions for the next three breweries we should try! @beer.4.babes.
