Since starting these reviews, I’ve been told to rank Good Neighbors, the coffee shop. And for good reason. It’s a CC classic. Less than a ten-minute walk from campus, it’s a typical meeting place for a group project, brunch with your friends or a quick coffee. While Good Neighbors straddles the line between a coffee shop and a brunch/cafe spot, it undoubtedly deserves to be ranked and included on my ongoing list.
Location: 9.5/10
As far as location goes, Good Neighbors deserves a lot of points. Less than ten-minutes east of campus, it’s perfect if you want to enjoy a quick walk before getting some caffeine. The walk is even shorter if you live off-campus, meaning that for a lot of upperclassmen, it’s a perfect choice for a quick coffee run.
Vibe: 9/10
Friendly staff, a lot of space to do work and plenty of outdoor seating mean this place has a great vibe no matter what you came in for. The fact that it’s in the center of a neighborhood also contributes well to the laid-back, chill Sunday kind of vibe going on here. They’re really going for the hip coffee shop thing and are pulling it off well.
Price: 4/10
While the location and vibe put this place on a good track, the price is going to set it back in the rankings. $7 for a cold brew feels like highway robbery and the other coffee options were just as bad. While they do have a wide-ranging food menu with some great-sounding options, $10 for a smoothie is overkill. Compared to the other coffee options around the area, this one is going to cost you.
Taste: 9.5/10
Maybe it had to do with the $7 price, but the cold brew was quite solid. I didn’t try any of the food to keep the scoring system somewhat fair, but it also looked very, very good. While the coffee might cost you an arm and a leg, you’ll be rewarded with a great-tasting cup of joe.
Bottom Line
I’ve got mixed feelings about this place overall, which I think can be seen in the wide range of rankings it’s getting in each category. This place seems to get hyped up by students and while it is in a great spot and has a solid vibe, I’m not convinced that the hefty prices it’s charging for outweigh it. But I am willing to hear a case for Good Neighbors.
On another note, I’m starting to get through the classic coffee spots around campus and am looking for recommendations for people’s favorite coffee shops around town.
