Men’s Hockey:
The Tigers are 9-10-3 (3-6-3 in conference), and continue conference play this week. In January, CC went 1-3, losing 3-2 on Jan. 2 and 4-2 on Jan. 3 against Augustana and splitting the series against No. 4 North Dakota, winning 3-2 in overtime on Jan. 9 before losing 5-2 the next day. The Tigers also won 8-3 on Jan. 17 in an exhibition game against Simon Fraser.
This weekend, the Tigers will have the chance to improve their conference record with an away series against University of Nebraska-Omaha, who are tied with the Tigers for last place. Games will take place at 7 p.m. on both Friday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Jan. 24.
Away from the team, freshman Wilson Björk won a gold medal with Team Sweden at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship
Women’s Basketball:
The Tigers now hold a record of 11-4 (6-0 in conference) and continue Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play this week. In January they collected wins against St. Thomas 65-63, Austin College 58-47, University of Dallas 74-49, Hendrix College 61-58 and University of the Ozarks 75-51. Freshman center Rayna Welsch leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14 points and 6.6 boards a game. The Tigers play next against McMurry University on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Reid Arena. On Sunday, Jan. 25, the Tigers play at home again at 3 p.m. in Reid Arena against Schreiner University.

In January they collected wins against Austin College 87-69, University of Dallas 87-55 and Hendrix 74-64, but lost to No. 14 St. Thomas 78-62, Hardin-Simmons 80-70 and University of the Ozarks 85-72. Senior forward Asher Nofzinger leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.3 points and 8.5 boards a game. The Tigers play next against McMurry University on Friday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in Reid Arena. On Sunday, Jan. 25, the Tigers play at home again at 1 p.m. in Reid Arena against Schreiner University.
Men’s Swim & Dive:
In January, the Tigers lost to Chapman 192-108, then beat Occidental 146-110. On Jan. 16-18, the Tigers took first place in the CC Classic. On Jan. 20, sophomore Sam Allen and junior Nico Rimer were selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer and co-diver of the week respectively for the second week in a row after their noteworthy performances at the CC Classic. Rimer placed first in the 3-meter and second in the 1-meter. Allen won the individual 200 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke, 100 Fly and 200 Fly events, and was the meet’s point winner with 80 points. He additionally recorded pool records in the 800 Free Relay, 200 Backstroke and 400 Medley Relay. The Tigers now prepare for the SCAC Championships, held in Garland, Texas from Feb. 11-14.
Women’s Swim & Dive:
In January, the Tigers collected wins against Chapman 155.5-145.5 and Occidental 166-90. On Jan. 16-18, the Tigers took first place in the CC Classic. On Jan. 20, sophomore Julia Cox and junior Keller Pooley were selected the SCAC Women’s Co-Swimmer and Diver of the week respectively after their noteworthy performances at the CC Classic. Pooley placed first in both the 3-meter and 1-meter events, setting a school, pool and meet record in the 3-meter event. Cox won the individual 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle events, taking second place in the 500 Freestyle. She ended the weekend as the top points earner with 77. The Tigers now prepare for the SCAC Championships, held in Garland, Texas from Feb. 11-14.
Intramurals:
Intramural basketball and futsal leagues start this week and run through Block 6. Block 5’s Second Saturday Series event will be the SS Regatta, held on Jan. 31. Teams will build a cardboard boat and race across the Schlessman Natatorium pool. There are awards for the first to make it across (Speed Boat Award), the most spectacular sinking (Titanic Award), and for the best design and theme (Boeing Super Max). Registration closes Jan. 30.
Motherpuckers are the winners of the Block 4 Ice Hockey tournament. Reigning Futsal champions Senior 18 went back to back, taking home the shirts for the second year in a row. Big Dawgs are the winners of the Co-Ed Basketball tournament, with a certain sports editor taking home a shirt. The Block 4 Open Basketball Tournament concludes on Wednesday, Jan. 21, with Backcourt Beauties matching up with Balls-aholics for the third time in the tournament.
