On Sept. 18, Colorado College released the 2025 Annual Safety, Security, and Fire Report, which is required for any institution participating in the student financial aid programs pursuant to Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

In accordance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, colleges are required to inform the public about their campus safety policies and procedures, as well as share statistics on certain crimes that occur on college campuses.

This year’s report includes policies and procedures that CC uses to address crime and fire risk. It also details the measures CC takes to ensure students’ safety and gives recommendations to students on how to increase their personal safety and stay informed on issues ranging from prevention programs to reporting sexual assault.

The new element of the campus safety plan this year is the Stop Campus Hazing Act, which was signed on Dec. 23, 2024.

The report includes data from the last three calendar years to meet the standards set by the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (commonly known as Clery) of 1990 and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) of 2013, which, among other crimes, require information related to dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

“[The act] requires us to report upon hazing in our Clery reports, but it also requires us to maintain documentation on suspected hazing at Colorado College as well as look at education for hazing prevention and hazing reporting,” said Cathy Buckley, director of Campus Safety and Emergency Management.

A separate Hazing Transparency Report is scheduled to be posted before Dec. 2025. Until then, CC has a temporary group to oversee campus compliance with this law.

“The committee includes representation from different departments on campus to discuss how to educate people on hazing and how to prevent it,” said Buckley. “It has representatives from campus safety, athletics, Greek Life coordinators, student events, student life and Title IX.”

The full digital report is available on the CC website. To access the hard copy, you can pick up the Campus Safety/Fire Safety Information Handbook with the same information at the Campus Safety Office at 1106 N Cascade Ave, or request a hard copy in the mail by calling 719-389-6707.
