For many at Colorado College, the annual arts and crafts fair is more than just an event — it’s a tradition that inspires creativity and connection amongst our community.

The fair, held on Dec. 6 and 7, transformed Worner Center into a vibrant display of creativity that showcased the talents of approximately 90 vendors’ work in various media. Students, faculty, staff and members of Colorado Springs can attend the fair, allowing the CC community to provide their participation and support.

I spoke with two first-time sellers at the fair, Tori Nilsen ’27 and Audrey Pozen ’27, who had previously attended the fair as spectators but now had a chance to showcase and sell their art.

Nilsen, like others, shared that the event has a uniqueness, one that creates a space for artists of all different styles and crafts to come together and share their work. The fair is a collaboration between student artists and artists from Colorado Springs. “The fair opens up a new side of people,” said Nilsen. “You didn’t know that they were artistic at all, and then they’re selling stuff here and you’re amazed.”

Safe to say she was right, I was amazed. The tables were filled with intricate art creations. Prints of skiers, frog stickers and beaded jewelry were just some of the items sold at the fair. Every artist I saw had a distinct style that they developed over time.

Pozen echoed a similar sentiment. Reflecting on the fair’s significance, she said that it is an opportunity to “Get some little treats for the people that mean something in your life. And I think it’s a great place to kind of also do that while supporting your peers and community members. Everyone loves giving a good gift to someone, but it’s even better when someone made it by hand.”

The fair isn’t just about purchasing art; it’s about celebrating creativity and the connections within our community.

As I continued my stroll through the fair, I noticed a recurring theme in much of the artworks: inspiration from the world around us. Many of the artists, including Nilsen and Pozen, draw from the world around them for inspiration. Mountains, music, geometric shapes and more find their way into their creations.

I marveled at the work of my peers and community members. I realized that the annual arts and crafts fair is more than just an event; it’s a tradition that celebrates creativity and community within Colorado Springs. For first-time sellers like Nilsen and Pozen, it was an opportunity to showcase their work. For attendees, it was a reminder of the incredible creative talent within our community.
