The first Colorado College Student Government Association meeting of Block 4 focused on funding requests for the esports lab and a new Uber pilot program.

As mentioned in the last CCSGA update, the committee heard a proposal to increase the student activity fee and give the extra money to the esports lab in the basement of Palmer Hall, home of the Colorado College Esports Team. Currently, all the funding for the program comes from ITS. The proposal is to split the cost between ITS and the increased activity fee.

After it was first introduced to CCSGA, esports members revised the proposal to minimize the increase in the student activity fee. The current proposal is that this fee increases from $510 to $529.67 although this comes on the heels of a 5% increase to the student activity fee last year. The increase will cover $42,500 of student and staff fees. After a short debate about the revisions to the proposal, CCSGA unanimously voted to allow for the increase.

However, this vote does not automatically mean the increase in student fees will happen. CCSGA has simply moved toward the change, while the $19.67 increase still awaits approval by the board before hitting students’ accounts next year.

CCSGA also voted on an Uber pilot program that Vice President of Outreach Royce Hinojosa ‘26 has headed over the past two years. This program will allow 100 students to have 16 free Uber rides throughout Blocks 5 and 6. The rides must be within a $15 radius and the students will be chosen for the pilot program based on an interest survey that will be sent out shortly. After the two-Block trial period, focus groups will be held so CCSGA can understand how being able to use this Uber program helped the students.

This would cost CCSGA $24,000 but it’s possible not all of the money will be used by the 100 students. Any extra would stay with CCSGA. The Uber Pilot Program was passed unanimously.
