Last week, Colorado College’s Student Government Association met briefly to work within their committees and celebrate Halloween in style.

The Finance Committee is continuing discussions with departments that receive CCSGA funding to increase financial transparency. The ultimate goal is a clear breakdown of the allocation of their more than $1 million budget. The committee also seeks to build a historical record and infrastructure for future school leaders.

The Student Life Committee has been working to strengthen relationships with Bon Appetit and is looking for student input on how to do so. CCSGA has put up QR codes in Tutt Library for students to submit feedback about housing and nutrition so these concerns can be addressed. Hunter Burge ‘25 attended the food advisory meeting last week to highlight discontent around Rastall Cafe’s use of seed oils, which she says has been a point of complaint for students over the past few years. According to school dietitian Marina Fella, the Simply Oasis section of the dining hall has shifted to only using olive oil, and Bon Appetit is working to expand the initiative. Student Life is also collaborating with the administration on a meal voucher program that would provide $7,500 in meal plan money for students who have run out and are at risk of experiencing food insecurity. More information on this new project and others like it can be found in their newsletter, which will be published before the end of the semester.

The Outreach Committee is planning events to improve student experience, as well as improve relationships with the broader Colorado Springs community. CCSGA will be putting on a post-secondary readiness panel for students of Palmer High School featuring students from many local colleges. Vice President of Outreach Royce Hinojosa ‘26 said that they are “not trying to make it an advertisement for any school,” but rather use it as an opportunity to answer questions about applications and college life. The committee is also preparing to launch an Uber pilot program for Blocks 5 and 6 of 2025, which would subsidize Uber rides for around 100 CC students. Additionally, they are researching and building a catalog of locations for students to engage in intentional outreach with the Springs.

The CCSGA website is the current focus of the Internal Affairs Committee. Not only are they updating photos and bios for the new council, but they also seek to make it more streamlined and accessible for students. As always, committee members continue to set up avenues for student feedback on ways that the college can improve.

Finally, the ADEI Committee is expanding the scope of its current climate survey. The committee is creating an academic opportunities grant too, which would provide “more funding for students and their academic needs,” according to Jess Duran ‘25. This grant would be relatively broad, allowing students to pay for things like LSAT tutoring, clothes for job interviews or additional costs for thesis projects.
