The cross country team held their first and only home meet on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Memorial Park. The Tigers were the sole Division III school competing at the Ted Castaneda Classic, facing DI and DII schools like the Air Force Academy and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. “Ted C,” as the team affectionately calls the meet, is named after famous former runner and long-time Colorado College cross country coach Ted Castaneda, who met with the team after their race.

The steep competition did not stop our runners.

Colorado College’s nationally ranked No. 1 women’s team had the first five runners across the finish line with outstanding times from Alison Mueller-Hickler ‘26, Sydney Rankin ‘25, Elliot Singer ‘25, Isabel Olson ‘25, and Charlie Flint ‘27. The women took first place overall with the meet’s lowest score of 15 points: the top five runners on each team scored with first place scoring one point, second place scoring two points, and so on. UCCS came in second in the women’s event with 69 points.

The men’s team placed second, largely thanks to Will Shuflit’s ‘27 first-place finish. Shuflit, who hovered around second for the first half of his 8k race, overtook his competition and won by 20 seconds, with his team not far behind. Colorado School of Mines took the lead with 34 points to CC’s 43.

This meet was another stellar performance by both teams, continuing their winning streak and season success.

On Friday, Oct. 11, the Tigers will compete at the UCCS Open. Next week, No. 21 and No. 1 women will travel to Augustana, Illinois, for a larger regional face-off on Oct. 19.

Be sure to wish the team good luck as they continue to make history!
