Welcome back to the final “Beer for Babes” of Block 1. This week, we tried Crooked Stave Brewing Company’s Juicy East Hazy Pale Ale in honor of our New England birthday girl, Ella Holland ‘25. We would describe this beer as the perfect hazy: not too hoppy, a little cloudier than a typical New England IPA, yet still having some fun. It had lovely tropical notes and was even a little fruitier than expected. It was an easy one to get down — not too burpy.
The can design was very aesthetically pleasing, with fun, colorful graphics. Not included in our masterpiece of a drawing, there was a lovely lobster on the back, which really added to the New England vibe.
It paired well with a chaotic game of stump, post-club soccer practice (we may have almost yakked on our empty stomachs). Megan unfortunately got nailed with a ball in the face at practice, stung by a bee and then hit herself in the knee with a hammer all in the span of an hour, but the tasty beer made it all better. It also paired well with the SoundCloud remixes we listened to while watching a professional stump player, Jack Veenstra ‘25, try to do trick shots with the hammer.
Chuggability was once again disappointing on Izzy’s part, as Megan chugged for the same amount of time, yet drank more than double the beer. Izzy is getting old and can no longer chug, whereas Megan still has that youthful glow. This beer got us just the right amount of drunk. Our skill in the game of stump briefly increased and then quickly fell back down which was a great gauge of our drunkenness. Overall, this was a very yummy beer that tastes like something one would drink in Colorado if you badly wished you were on the East Coast instead. We recommend this beer to all the homesick Noah Kahan listeners and JOB transplants whenever they want a little taste of home.
