Hello loyal readers and welcome back to Beer for Babes.
Sadly, Tia Peterson ’24 is no longer with us (she’s just graduated, not dead). Everyone, please join us in welcoming the talented, sexy, pro-beer drinker Megan Burich ’26, as our new co-writer.
This week we kicked off the year with a bougie little shandy from the great state of Minnesota, of which Izzy is a resident and Megan is an honorary member. Although it’s frigid there, they sure know how to make a great summer drink. This Pryes Brewing Main Squeeze Lemon-Lime Blonde Ale (Jesus, that’s a mouthful) was the perfect porch drink that paired even better with some gossip and a sunny day (even though we drank it after dark).
Starting off with the can: it was simple and to the point. They were not fucking around. It was yellow and green like the classic lemon and lime. The can looked like it took probably all of one second to design. It kinda looked like the mint yerba mate can and I now understand why we occasionally get strange looks cracking a can of that in the early morning hours.
Moving on to taste, as a blond ale, this beer was refreshing, light and not too sweet. The lemon-lime flavor gave off a La Croix-type essence, like they had a lemon in the room while brewing this beer. Although we liked the taste, our special guest Tia’s little sister (Pearl, ‘28) said it tastes like Coors. We are worried about the beer-tasting genes — they may be recessive.
Chugability was pleasant, however, we were unfortunately interrupted by jaw-dropping lore while attempting this chug, so we did not get an accurate time. But this year is the year of the chug. We promise we will actually be able to successfully chug by the end of the year, or at least try our best.
Although this was a delicious beer, it did not get us as drunk as we would have wished. We would recommend this drink to start your day with (we hope this is in the context of going to a darty, not to class), but not to get you sufficiently drunk. You cannot yet get this beer at Weber. Unfortunately, you’ll have to make the treacherous journey to the iceberg of a state, Minnesota, to enjoy this beer.
Great beer to kick off the year and we hope you continue drinking with us every week.
XOXO Beer for Babes.
