Putting the ‘Fun’ in Funding!

Whether you spent your weekend summiting a 14er, submerging yourself in Lake Powell, or diving headfirst into a new Netflix show, Block Breaks are fun reminders of all the opportunities available to us as Colorado College students. While academics are a large part of the CC experience, sometimes overwhelmingly so, there are many other components. While the CCSGA Finance Committee might not have the most thrilling title, we do have the exciting job of funding some ofthis fun.
Throughout the year, the CCSGA Finance Committee works to equitably distribute funding to benefit the student body as much as possible. We use our biweekly meetings to manage operating budgets for student groups, decide on special events funding, and work to find ways that our budget can go toward activities that students are excited about. This year, VP Remy Wells, a senior economics and business major, is leading the committee. The committee itself is comprised of four committee members, Hugh Alessi ’20, Lilly Davis ’22, Deksyos Damtew ’21, and myself, Dani Richardson ’21.
Since we were instated, Block 8 we have funded LoCCal, allocated budgets to all eligible student groups, and met with numerous groups requesting special events financing. So far this year we have funded MountainFilm, Tyler Mahon’s guest speaking event by SOIL group, and two CC Refugee Alliance events, which included a kickoff at Sacred Grounds and ESL Tutor Training. We have also allocated funds for a few upcoming events, such as the Monument Valley Creek Cleanup on Oct. 5 and a Spoken Word Performance by Dominique Christina sponsored by START on Oct. 7–8. These opportunities will be open to all students on campus, and we heavily encourage you to participate.
We are extremely excited to continue helping CC students create clubs and events that they are passionate about and that can be shared with the rest of the community. If you are interested in applying for special events funding, we would love for you to do so. You can find the application and more information on our website, https://www.coloradocollege.edu/other/ccsga/ on the finance committee page. We also welcome any questions that you may have at our email, ccsgafincom@gmail.com.
