Claire Tobin: When did you start running track and playing soccer?
Camille Weaver: I started track in middle school, and I started playing soccer when I was four or five.
CT: Do you like track or soccer better?
CW: Yeah, I like soccer more. I’d say it’s my first love. I really like track, too. I wouldn’t want to give up either of them.
CT: How have you been balancing soccer and track?
CW: Last year I was doubling up on [soccer and track] practices almost every day. Sometimes I was out there for six hours a day. I didn’t have time for both sports and ended up getting injured. This year, I decided to just commit to track during the spring season. It has been so nice to focus on one sport. I miss playing soccer, but I’m glad I can become closer to the track team and not beat up my body.
CT: Can you tell me about your performance so far this season?
CW: Compared to last year, the hurdles and high jump are going much better. Triple jump and long jump have plateaued a little bit. I’m tied for first in the conference for high jump right now, and I’m 14th in the nation for high jump.
CT: Do you have any goals for the rest of the season?
CW: I would like to qualify for Nationals in something. For hurdles I would like to run low 15s. I’m doing the heptathlon next weekend, so I’m interested to see what I can do in that. The heptathlon is high jump, long jump, javelin, shot put, 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter, and the 800 meter. I’m a little worried about the 800 meter.
CT: What are the major differences between the track team and the soccer team?
CW: The track team is more goofy and unique in their own way. It’s a different environment with track having both men and women on the same team.
CTL If you had to choose a patronus for track and a patronus for soccer what would they be?
CW: What is the quirkiest animal? I’d say maybe an aardvark for track. It would have to be a tiger for soccer, no question about it.
CT: Do you have an interesting fact about yourself?
CW: I’m a twin!
