• Rocky Mountain Women’s film festival will be hosted at CC from Nov. 9–11. RMWF is the longest running women’s film festival in North America.
• In celebration of Dia de Los Muertos, on Saturday Nov. 3, SOMOS hosted Mariachi Tigre in Concert. (SOMOS)
• President Tiefenthaler, in a college-wide email on Thursday Nov. 8, announced Untold Stories, a project that tells and shows the little-known stories of persons of color and marginalized people at CC over the years.
• Jordan Larson was announced CC’s Top Tiger in a talent show hosted by Kappa Kappa Gamma on Nov. 3. All proceeds of the show went to the charity, Reading is Fundamental.
C-SPRINGS
• Republican Doug Lamborn won re-election to U.S. House in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Colorado Springs, over Democratic opponent Stephanie Rose Spaulding. The results were 58.7. percent to 38 percent, respectively. (The Gazette)
• El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder (R) was reelected for a second term over Democratic candidate Grace Sweeney-Mauerer. (The Gazette)
• Voters ousted Judge Christopher Acker after his scathing job review. His term will end Jan. 7. He was voted out by a six-point margin, with 86,268 votes against keeping him for another four-year term compared to 76,113 votes in his support. (The Gazette)
• On Nov. 1 Colorado Springs Rescue Mission opened 100 low-barrier shelter beds to address a growing need. (The Gazette)
• On Nov. 8 there was a rally on the steps of Colorado Springs City Hall to protect the Mueller investigation in response to Jeff Sessions’ resignation. (MoveOn)
COLORADO
• Colorado elects first openly gay governor, Democrat Jared Polis on Nov. 6. (Denver Post)
• Colorado votes to abolish slavery by passing Amendment A, two years after a similar proposition failed to pass. (Denver Post)
• Colorado residents who do not identify as male or female will be allowed to choose X as the symbol to represent their gender on their driver’s licenses. This rule will go into effect later this month. It will impact an approximated 20,850 Coloradoans. “The department needed to adopt a policy in line with those decisions to avoid the possibility of being sued” said the Colorado Department of Revenue Director, Michael Hartman. • Texas governor Ted Cruz narrowly wins reelection over Democratic opponent Beto O’Rouke in a hotly contested race. Cruz won by less than a two percent margin. (NYT)
• Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell in her office Thursday Nov. 8 and fractured three ribs. (Bloomberg)
• On Nov. 8 there was a mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, Cali. There were 12 victims, the suspect is confirmed dead. (Vox)
• A federal appeals court ruled against President Trump on DACA, the case is now slated to be heard in front of the Supreme Court. (Vox)
WORLD
• Google changed their sexual harassment policy after employees walked out, globally. Google has been under fire for discreetly giving a top executive accused of harassment a large severance package. (Vox)
• The U.S. reinstated harsh sanctions on Iran after they withdrew from a nuclear deal. (Democracy Now)
