The men’s and women’s frisbee teams competed in tournaments the past few weekends, with each of the teams’ younger players gaining some collegiate experience. The men competed at the Rookie Nookie in Fort Collins, Colo. and the women competed against other Colorado teams in a similar tournament, Amateur Hour at the University of Colorado Boulder.

The men competed well against strong competition from DI and DIII opponents, and captain Orren Fox ‘20 had great things to say about the team’s effort; “Our entire freshman class has been really impactive so far,” he said. “[First-years] Josh Felton, Parker Rehmus, Graham Whitling and Joe Keat all played incredibly well. They’re all going to be incredible players.”

Participation in the tournament wasn’t as much about the team’s performance as it was to gather the team for organized game action and strengthen the team’s chemistry, according to captain Shane Eckert ’19.

“Going into the next tournament we’re trying to work on our flow offense and building chemistry on defense,” Eckert said. “We’re super excited for how our team develops over the year; we’ll be grinding and having a ton of fun while we do it.”

Sam Pfeifer ’21 believes that with what the first-years showed in Fort Collins, the team is going to see plenty of success; “It was early in the year, and we were expecting to make a lot of mistakes,” Pfeifer said. “But we looked really good for early season. Everyone was contributing, including the freshmen. If we can be accurate with our throws and catches and not turnover the disc, we will be unbeatable because we know we have the talent.”

Meanwhile, the women’s team competed in a one-day tournament at Boulder, matching up against Boulder, Colorado State University’s A and B teams, and Denver University.

Now that they have some experience playing with each other, Kiera Connelly ’19 has high hopes for the team this year; “It’s going to be an amazing season,” Connelly said. “We have a pretty good chance to qualify for nationals this year.”

The next tournament for both teams will be when they travel to Missouri for the Missouri Loves Company tournament Nov. 2–4.
