CC took an early 2–1 lead thanks to outside hitter Haley Harris ’20. Harris quickly did work for the Tigers, recording seven kills with zero errors in the first set. All-American setter Lizzy Counts ’20 and libero Caitlin Larence ’20 also posted strong performances early, as Counts produced 16 assists, and Lawrence was responsible for eight digs.

Trinity rebounded from CC’s hot start, but again lost, digging themselves into a 2-0 hole. Then, Trinity went off. They decisively won the third set 25–16 and never looked back. The fourth set was a battle, coming to a peak with both teams tied at 15. Trinity then exploded for 10 straight points and leveled the match to two sets apiece heading into the fifth and final set. The set was back and forth the entire way through, with neither squad holding more than a two-point lead. Eventually tied at 13 all, Trinity managed to snag the last two points to seal the victory, handing No. 2 CC Tigers their first loss of the season.

With two games the following day, the Tigers had to quickly bounce back after the tough loss. The Tigers swiftly replied to their loss with a three-set victory against Schreiner University. Marguerite Spaethling ’20 led the Tigers, hitting .500 and recording 13 kills. Harris was heavily involved once again, raking in 12 kills and just two errors, finishing the match with a .370 hitting percentage. Defensively, Rachel Krutz ’21 and Laurence did the heavy lifting, recording 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Less than an hour after their win against Schreiner, the CC Tigers faced Texas Lutheran University. The Tigers again came away victorious. Leading the attack again were Spaethling and Harris, each recording 13 kills. After dropping the first set, the Tigers battled back and forth with TLU to take the second set. Finding their stride in the third, the Tigers caught fire, hitting .571 in the third set and .441 in the fourth. Counts was again a major team asset, recording 47 assists.

After finishing the weekend on a high note, the 17–1 Tigers head to St. Louis for the Washington University Invitational. They will face the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Augustana College on Friday, Oct. 5, and take on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and No. 11 Washington University in St. Loomis on Saturday, Oct. 6.
