Colorado College men’s lacrosse (9-4) returned to Texas over Block Break to compete against two teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The Tigers won two consecutive games against Southwestern University (9-7) and the University of Dallas (12-3).

CC dominated Southwestern University 15-2 in Georgetown, Texas last Friday evening. The Tigers maintained full control over every aspect of the game throughout the entire match. The CC offense outshot the Pirates 52-12 and the defense picked up 41 ground balls to Southwestern’s 26.

After scoring twice in the first quarter, the Pirates were scoreless for the final 45 minutes. Junior attackman Austin Davie and first year midfielder Tyler Borko led the offense with three and two goals respectively. Senior goalie Chase Murphy earned his eighth win of the season with seven saves and six ground balls in 49 minutes of action.

The Tigers commanded their match against the University of Dallas in similar fashion. CC defeated the Crusaders 17-2 last Saturday morning in Irving, Texas.

Freshmen stole the show with attackman Chris Brower and Harrison Raine scoring four goals a piece. First year attackman Ethan Moore also scored three times.

“We had a solid performance against both Southwestern and Dallas, and we’re happy to come out of the Block Break with two wins,” said Moore. “It was nice that a lot of players who have been working hard all season that don’t see the field as much on game days were able to get a good amount of playing time.”

CC’s offensive dominance gave the Tigers a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. By halftime CC had a 12-2 lead on the Crusaders. The Tigers then held them scoreless for the rest of the match. On the opposite side of the field, sophomore defender Nate Sweet led the defense with eight ground balls. Sophomore Brice Tucker and first-year Harry Hinds split time in goal and each earned three saves in 30 minutes of play.

“Our team offense was great during the Dallas game. We had a lot of assisted goals and we moved the ball very well,” said Moore.

For their last two games of the regular season, CC will shift its focus to a highly competitive team. This weekend and next the Tigers will take on Whittier College (8-3).

“For the Whittier games we simply need to play our game,” said Student Assistant Coach Chris Maves. “We are more than capable of handling Whittier if we play with confidence and implement our game plan.

Men’s lacrosse has had a strong spring and these last two games could prove vital for the team’s chances at entering the NCAA Division III tournament.

“For the tournament I think we need to simply treat it as another game,” said Maves. “It is a survive and advance situation. We will take it one game at a time and wait to make a statement through that simple process.”
