Senior basketball player Juwan Rohan has spent the last four years representing Colorado College on the basketball court. His career as a Tiger ended with a 62-43 team record. A highly motivated player, his personal stats include 97 games played and a field goal percentage of 30.3 with a total of 173 points. In his senior season he scored 45 points, sinking seven from behind the arc, and totaled seven steals.
“I am a very hard-working individual. If I want something really badly, I’ll make sure I’ll do everything in my power to get it. I believe in dedication, preparation, and consistency. I think those are three important components to success,” said Rohan.
Juwan fell in love with basketball at a young age. He could rarely be seen without a basketball in his hands.
“I first touched a full size basketball around age four and from there on out, I never let the basketball go,” said Rohan. “I would always be dribbling around the house (we had hardwood floors in the kitchen), outside in the neighborhood, and I would even take the ball to school and dribble between each class.”
Once he caught the basketball bug he never lost it. Rohan put in the hours to become a force on the court.
“I wanted to be so good that all I did was eat, sleep, and breathe basketball. It took dedication, preparation, and doing all of this consistently. That was the key to becoming a good player,” said Rohan. “One thing that always stuck with me was ‘it’s better to have choices, instead of chances.’”
That hard work and dedication brought Rohan to CC. He shared his love and passion for the game with his teammates. In his final season as a Tiger, he and his teammates brought home a 16-11 overall score including an impressive 10-4 in conference.
“As a freshman I came in from the first game of pickup and I could tell that all of my class had something great to offer this program. Our chemistry clicked and continued to improve as the years went on. If it wasn’t for the four other seniors, my CC experience would be totally different and I am so grateful to have them as my family for life.”
Though Rowan has played his last game as a CC Tiger, his competitive basketball career may not be over. This summer Rowan will be putting on an American jersey as he represents the U.S. internationally. Rowan has been invited by USA Athletes International to play basketball throughout Europe.
“I was skeptical at first and I did my research and actually wanted to try this experience, so I committed to the trip and have been looking to raise the money to afford it,” said Rowan.
USA Athletes International is a non-profit organization that grants recommended student-athletes the opportunity to compete in international Olympic style sporting events all over the world. They promote connections between cultures via athletics. They promise both an athletic and educational experience to their carefully selected athletes.
“I talked to people I know that have done opportunities like this and they said they absolutely loved it and it’s something I should do and take advantage of so I am really excited about this opportunity,” said Rohan.
In an effort to help raise the funds to participate, Rohan has started a GoFundMe campaign. The page can be found at http://www.gofund.me.com/JuwanCostaRica.
