Recently, there have been some staff position changes in the dorms, and Residential Life is buzzing about one name in particular. As he said it best, the rumors are true: Zak is back.

Zachary Kroger, famed Loomis RLC, has returned to his job of Residential Life Coordinator, but he is no longer the fearless leader of Loomis. Kroger has now become the Slocum RLC, and he has found that he is actually enjoying the change in scenery.

After Slocum’s previous RLC left the position, CC needed someone to fill the spot, and Kroger was a willing candidate.

Kroger faced the task of returning to residential hall life with enthusiasm and creativity. After less than a week of being Slocum’s RLC, Kroger has already initiated multiple ways to engage the Slocum community, such as the Slocum $#!+, which is a weekly news flyer that tells residents about what is going on in the building, provides updates about events, and includes Kroger’s “data dump” about something interesting and educating. The data dump is meant to spark interest and conversation among the students.

One of Kroger’s goals is to get to know students and work towards all-around community engagement. “How I describe it is being a problem solver,” said Kroger. “So I view my job as, if any student who comes to me with anything, no matter what it is, they will leave my office with it resolved or knowing where to go to get it resolved.”

Kroger is engaged in the dorm community and genuinely wants to help people and enrich their college experience. He loved his own time at college and wants other people to have that positive experience as well.

“I feel like the reason why I like being an RLC so much is that I like helping people, and I like helping people in a way that directly impacts them,” said Kroger. “With the RLC position, a student can come in with a problem and either I have dealt with that problem a number of times or have had to deal with that problem myself when I was a student, so I have some insight, and I can provide some wisdom, hopefully.”

On the topic of Loomis versus Slocum, Kroger did not attempt to hide his deeply-entrenched loyalty towards Loomis. Although he described Slocum life as “Beautiful,” because of its nice facilities and recent renovations, he ended the interview by saying “Loomis for life!”

“I was accused of being a cult leader, and Loomis was accused of group-narcissism, and I was like ‘Yes! I will take that as a compliment and put that on my resume,’” said Kroger.

Kroger did such a good job as Loomis RLC that he stayed past the standard three years, a time which has been further extended due to his new role as Slocum RLC. Kroger spent last semester managing Off-Campus Housing.
