On Monday, Jan. 25 in Celeste Theater, students, staff members, and administrators gathered for the much-anticipated unveiling of the new Colorado College logo. The new logo comes as the first step in a large Master Communications Plan on campus. The new logo features a mountainous background and is designed, in part, to connect the identity of CC to its unique location at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Monday marked a big day for the logo as it was rolled out en masse and now flies above Nevada and Cascade Avenue as well as on the banner of the CC website.

The logo was rolled out in the hopes of providing a more dynamic image for the college. President Jill Tiefenthaler said, “The Master Communications Plan is a big part of that overall strategic plan, to help us tell that story of program, place, and people to both our own constituencies and also those who don’t know so much about Colorado College.”

The logo was designed in large part by the Knowledge Development Team. The team consisted of faculty members, administrators, and students. The co-chairs of the team were Jane Turnis, the vice president for communications, and Athletic Director Ken Ralph. Junior Jin Mei McMahon, one of five members of the development team, said, “I think that we were able to take everything that the student body told us and sort of work it into this new identity.”

For members of the team, the new logo was a positive first step towards rebranding the college’s image. “It gives us a coherence of look that will communicate very clearly to the outside world that we are an educational institution of the highest caliber. Does the logo produce that? No. Is the logo necessary to communicating that effectively? Absolutely,” said English professor Steven Hayward.
