Because it is easy to forget the amazing food and businesses that exist just beyond the Colorado College campus, CCSGA put together an opportunity to encourage students to explore off-campus and see what the vibrant community of Colorado Springs has to offer.
Last Friday was CC Night on the Town, where students received discounts at seven restaurants, including Rasta Pasta, Wooglin’s, Panino’s, Poor Richard’s, Front Range BBQ, and Jose Muldoon’s.
Businesses offered deals like 10 and 20 percent discounted meals and happy hour specials.
Todd Renz, manager of Wooglin’s, was excited about Night on the Town. “We like to do anything we can to support the school,” said Renz.
There is a unique relationship between Wooglin’s and the students at CC. Whether it’s a breakfast sandwich, a Rueben’s Reuben, a cold beverage, or a sweet pastry, students love having a full service eatery just steps away from campus.
“We depend on you guys,” said Renz, and many enthusiasts would argue they too depend on Wooglin’s.
Renz said that Wooglin’s looked at the Night on the Town as a “good opportunity for underclassmen who may not have known about us.” He believes the event is a great idea, and after participating the last two years, he says Wooglin’s will definitely be a part of the program in the future.
Due to the unfortunate coinciding of both Winterfest and Night on the Town last Friday, attendance and participation levels were lower than hoped for in local restaurants.
Next year, a combination of more strategic planning in terms of dates and perhaps more offers catering to a 21-and-over student group would lend itself to a more successful event.
