The Leechpit is making a comeback.
Owner Adam Leech announced on Facebook Tuesday that his “emporium of vintage records and clothing” will be reopening on the West Side of Colorado Springs soon, roughly six months after Colorado College opted not to renew the store’s 10-year lease at 802 Nevada Ave.
“We have gotten really good at making the most of less than perfect conditions,” Leech said on the stores Facebook page. “But now we get to see what we can do with a proper store.”
The Leechpit closed this summer after a bitter dispute with the college over a lease agreement in which CC opted to not renew Leech’s paid use of the space. A petition to save the Leechpit was organized by several students on campus. However, CC terminated the Leechpit’s lease in an effort to create more flexible student spaces on campus.
The new store — which Leech says will offer over 4,000 square feet of floorspace, over three times the space at 802 — will be located on Colorado Springs’ west side at 3020 W. Colorado Ave.
Although no official re-opening date has been announced, Leech said on the store’s Facebook page that 100 “V.I.P” tickets will be sold to the opening “gala.”
College officials say construction on the new student space at 802 Nevada Ave. is nearly complete and that the location should open soon for community use.
