CC students are nearly as excited for the annual gear sale and photography competition this Saturday, May 11 as they are for the Llamapalooza music festival that follows.
The sale will be held in the Worner Center from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Both new and used gear will be up for grabs. The Gear House sent out an email advertising that they will be accepting “skis, clothes, tents, backpacks, climbing gear, and whatever suits your fancy.”
“We normally receive a lot of winter travel equipment: snowboards, skis, boots, jackets, tents, etc. Students have been bringing in gear all week, but we need more, and we are anticipating a large influx this week!” said senior Gabriel Patterson, a Gear House manager.
Representatives from secondhand outdoor gear retailers Gearonimo and Mountain Equipment Recyclers may make an appearance as well, to either buy or sell gear.
Even a full week before the event, as many as 30 submissions to the photography contest have flooded into the Gear House inbox. The contest will be judged first by the Gear House staff, then the top ten or so photos will be turned over to the student body to vote on the winner. This lucky individual will receive coupons for free gear rentals and the honor of seeing their photograph blown up and framed on the Gear House wall.
“[I have] worked at the gear house for the past three years, [and] this is my— and our— favorite event. With Llama beginning at 2:00 p.m., there isn’t a better way to start my morning… The psych is high!” Patterson said.
The Gear House will be open and accepting students’ gear for the sale from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 10.
The event will undoubtedly be a huge success, as it has been in past years. Make sure to stop by to pick up new gear and view and vote for your peers’ photographs!
