The Colorado College Student Government Association (CCSGA) is aiming for a 50% voter turnout in upcoming elections, said CCSGA President Royce Hinojosa ‘26.

The student governing body is funded by students through tuition, for students.

Among other duties, leaders are responsible for representing students, managing student organization funds and improving campus life. Despite that influence, voter turnout has historically been low.

This year, CCSGA is actively trying to change that.

“There’s a lot of value in getting involved,” Hinojosa said. “It is important that you have people in these positions that you feel are going to make an impact.”

He is urging students to participate in the upcoming election.

Hinojosa estimated that applications for candidates will open the first Monday of Block 6 with approvals and campaigning beginning in the second week. Voting should open at the beginning of Week 3 and ballots will be sent to CC email boxes.

Voting will close by the end of the week and results will be announced by Friday, March 27..

For students considering running, Hinojosa advised treating a campaign as an opportunity to get to know the campus and the people better.

“It’s as fun as you make it,” he said. “Think of it as something you get to do. I’m confident that we will get over 50%.”
