SEPTEMBER 12, 2025 | FEATURES | By Megan Burich and Haley Outwater
Hello, dear and loyal readers (and especially you, Theo Seamon ‘27, who was found highlighting our column in Tutt Library), and welcome back to another Beer for Babes. To combat the rainy, cold weather on Friday, Haley and Megan decided to get out of the house and connect with the place we call home: Colorado Springs, Colo.
To do this, we headed over to Bristol Brewing, one of the oldest breweries here, operating since 1994. Rumor has it that during the financial crisis in 2008, Bristol Brewing helped save the Parks Department from complete shutdown, according to Megan’s boss this summer.
While we couldn’t find anything to prove this, they still do really cool things like give 100% of their profits from their Give Back Mix Pack to local organizations. So, like, support them. Even if you don’t like giving back to your community (ew), their vibes also rock.
The space itself was welcoming and warm. Compared to every millennial neon sign overpriced brewery that seems to be opening now, this felt homey. We loved the schoolhouse vibes and the random tandem bike hanging from the ceiling. However, the pints we selected were a bit scary.
We first went with a mix of the Mango Pirate Golden Sour and the Beehive Honey Wheat, a suggestion made to us by the beertender, which was a decent start. Megan swears it’s better with more of the sour, and that our mix was made wrong. The first pint was okay and went down smoothly, although our burps tasted like plastic.
Could it be the alleged credit card of microplastics in our body or the beer? Who knows. Our first selection paired well with a Stio magazine, as we enjoyed looking at flannels for a steal at $175. Our two guests, Mariposa ‘26 and Kwynne ‘26, absolutely adored their sour (jealous), which they described as more similar to a cider than a sour.
As we moved on from our mixies, we decided to branch out and get some IPAs. Haley landed on the Cold IPA, and Megan chose a Hazy. A Cold IPA is supposed to be light, dry, and hop-forward.
Haley got distracted by the “dry” and forgot that she also had to endure the “hop-forward” aspect. The Hazy was delightful and fruity, but was definitely hard to put down after a light beer for our first.
While not the best IPAs, they did pair well with brainstorming our hopes and dreams for the full moon and setting intentions for the weekend. We’re hoping for a sunnier day next week so we can drink outside and pair this activity with playing stump (prayers).
The chug on these was actually horrific. Megan started to get the hiccups immediately after. Our notes read, “holding down throw-ups,” and we think that pretty much sums up how we felt. Doing a chug in public is also so humbling.
POV: Haley and Megan tearing up from the families surrounding us. The aftereffects of our genuinely horrible chug were interesting, to say the least. We felt altered in a way that few beers have done before. We felt “drunk not in the body but in the mind, drunk in my eyeballs, drunk in the head.” IYKYK.
We attempted to continue this drinking by moving on to wine later in the night (with a straw). Sex was in the air, and we felt this was fueled by our romantic experience at Bristol Brewing. Shoutout to the oldest brewery in Colorado Springs: you helped our ladies get play, and we will forever be grateful, even though your IPAs genuinely crushed us.
XOXO Beer for Babes. Look at our new logo––we worked really hard on it.
