Beer for Babes

Megan Burich / Colorado College

SEPTEMBER 26, 2025 | FEATURES | By Haley Outwater and Megan Burich

Hello, fellow beer lovers.

Haley and Megan are back this week with another mediocre beer but amazing vibes. This one was difficult, given that Megan is in her Thesis Block, and both of us were still in recovery from Block Break. However, we persevered for you. This week, what a surprise – we chose a sour! This sour was blueberry cobbler flavored, clocking in at 6.7% ABV from Red Leg Brewing, brewed right here in Colorado Springs, Colo.

As first impressions go, this was one of the worst. To start, the bear on the front was obviously AI, along with the description of the beer on the side of the can – this beer would supposedly “tantalize our taste buds.” Spoiler, it did not!

Second, cracking open this beer and seeing a Pepto Bismol-colored foam burst from the opening was very off-putting. The obvious Red 40 resembled RFK’s worst nightmare.

Megan immediately tasted celery, concerningly, after her first sip. Haley did not quite agree with this, but described it as a symphony of bad flavors, which it was. Further inspection of the beer description on the side of the can informed us that cinnamon, vanilla and blueberries were incorporated into this beer, in an attempt to craft a blueberry cobbler experience.

Thankfully, Haley had already had dinner, which made this dessert alright. Unfortunately for Megan, this beer did not pair with Annie’s Mac ‘n Cheese whatsoever. While we predicted this review would be an easy feat, we were wrong. Although those first few sips went down easily, the sugar began to coat our lips (described by Haley as those EOS lip balms you used to eat as a child – or at least she did), and every sip felt like one step closer to vomiting.

Onto the chug – this one came at about 20 minutes in. You may be thinking, ‘very speedy, ladies!’ So did we, until it was suddenly 55 minutes in and the second pint was practically untouched. But back to the chug itself. It was an easy and low-key fire, accompanied by a nice plethora of burps, none too unbearable.

The after effects of this suffering were disappointing, to say the least. Throwback to our drunk in the eyes moment (we miss you). This sour gave the girls incredible stomach pain and minimal inebriation. Truly upsetting.

As usual, we are still hoping for a sunny experience (please come through next week) and are predicting a higher rating (finally) when we can sit by our fire and play some stump. Maybe even fire up the grill. Then, we will be victorious. Please, everyone, send us your thoughts for a really good beer rating next week. Three in a row of subpar beers has really been upsetting our house vibe. We need good vibes, especially because Haley’s dad is visiting next weekend. Maybe he’ll join next week’s episode: stay tuned to find out!

Oh and! We made an Instagram! It is now Haley’s entire personality, as you can find it in her personal account’s bio. Megan is a fellow supporter, yet has opted to highlight her NYC roots in her bio. If you see us drinking together, please feel free to snap a pic, so we have more content. And follow @beer.4.babes on Instagram, please!
