Taylor Theater came alive on the night of Friday, Dec. 5, with electronic dance music for the Sounds of Colorado College’s (SOCC) Boiler Room EDM party. The event provided an outlet for people’s self-expression, a lively atmosphere and a feeling of comfort.

Corben Cameron ’28, the events manager for SOCC, was the force behind the event and has been planning it since the beginning of the year. Cameron was deeply passionate about this project.

“I wanted to bring something new,” he said. “We’ve never done an EDM event before. We’ve done live music shows and similar events, but I thought people would really enjoy this.”

The event featured CC student DJ 4 Chi and Joey Tuholski, or Pure Colors, an outside DJ from Atlanta, Ga.

“I started DJing in college about 10 years ago … and I’ve been doing it ever since,” Tuholski said. “This is my first college event since moving here … I’m just happy to be here and DJ for you all.”

With the presence of both DJs, Cameron aimed to broaden the musical tastes of CC students, stemming from his genuine love for live music and his desire to elevate the school’s party scene.

“I think mainstream-wise, a lot of people are getting into EDM and house now. It’s becoming way more popular,” Cameron said.

That said, he felt the music scene at campus festivities was lacking. “We have frat parties and things like that, but they can be pretty mid and the DJs aren’t great.”

Max McHenry ’26 reflected on the campus music scene, saying, “People always say there are no CC events, but I think people just don’t go to them.”

He elaborated that the student body “clearly has the musical talent on campus to put on amazing events, but we need better organization to bring that talent together.”

Ivan Trejo ’27, the other events manager for SOCC, wanted to use this event as an opportunity to expand music taste on campus.

“The electronic scene has been building, like in last year’s Battle of the Bands with acts such as Slut Council, which kind of felt like a prelude to this,” he said.

Cameron and Tuholski have a passion for the genre and brought their love of EDM and house music to the school last Friday night, hoping to broaden the palate of their community.
