In the second full-council meeting of the year on Sept. 4, the Colorado College Student Government Association (CCSGA) discussed plans and proposed policies for the new year.
Student Trustee Landon Hartman ‘27 proposed forming a new committee to make syllabi available to students before the beginning of each Block. Hartman expressed concerns that without essential information such as field trips and assignment dates, time management and scheduling can become difficult for students with non-optional commitments like jobs.
Hartman said that these commitments can be especially hard to balance when the syllabus comes out just a few days before the start of the Block. “It’s an equity concern,” Hartman said. “Having class schedules earlier will help them work out conflicts sooner.”
According to Hartman, it is important for faculty to have time over Block Break to rewrite their syllabi, and he hopes that this new committee will allow students and faculty to reach a compromise on creating a standard deadline for professors to send out the syllabus before the beginning of each Block.
In a unanimous vote, CCSGA approved the formation of this committee, with details to come about its members.
