The Colorado College Student Government Association (CCSGA) commenced its first meeting of the new school year during the first week of Block 1. The meeting, led by Student Body President Royce Hinojosa ‘26, covered projects and policies for the upcoming year.
CCSGA heard from John Horner, Chair of the Academic Events Committee and Professor of Psychology, about choosing a commencement speaker for graduation in the spring and the process for the senior class to nominate speakers who represent the values of the school.
The association also heard from Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Life Lacy Karpilo about the revision process for the school’s new freedom of expression policy. This policy has been revised by the Freedom of Expression Policy Group. The group will get feedback from students and faculty through community forums and an anonymous survey until Sep. 12, when the policy will be revised once more with the feedback in mind.
In a presentation to the whole council, Hinojosa laid out the new and strengthened partnerships CCSGA is forging with other groups on campus this year. CCSGA’s new faculty liaison, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Ike Agbanusi, will serve as the primary voice for faculty in CCSGA meetings throughout the year. CCSGA will also be working closely with Student Trustee Landon Hartman ‘27, who serves as a fiduciary for the college’s interests in council meetings.
CCSGA meetings happen on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. during the first three weeks of the Block. Anyone in the Colorado College community is invited to attend.
